Eastern Mediterranean University, Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, Department of Visual Arts and Visual Communication Design organized their second annual graphic design activity titled as “Grafica versus Grafica.” This year, the activity featured “Ex-Libris,” which is the key actor of book itself, the author and the reader of the book.
Organized under the main sponsorship of Kuzey Kıbrıs Turkcell, Grafica versus Grafica featured the 1st International Ex-Libris Competition’ North CYPRUS 2010.
339 artist/designers participated from 50 different counties with a total of more than 1000 ex libris works to the 1st International Ex-Libris Competition’ North CYPRUS 2010.
The jury for the 1st International Ex-Libris Competition’ North CYPRUS 2010 met on April 2, 2010 at the Department of Visual Arts and Visual Communication Design in Eastern Mediterranean University.
The jury consisted of the following individuals:

Results:
• Grand Prize (Kuzey Kıbrıs Turkcell): Lukasz Cywicki (POLAND)
• Accomplishment Prize (Kuzey Kıbrıs Turkcell): Molnar Iscsu Istvan (HUNGARY)
• Accomplishment Prize (Johan Bosschem): Tezcan Bahar (TURKEY)
• Jury Special Prize: Tarasco Pietro Paolo (ITALY)
• And 12 ex libris works were selected for Honorable Mention; (Mohsen Deghani-IRAN, Omid Motamedi-IRAN, Gabriela Gergic-ARGENTINA, Rafi Münz-ISRAEL, shma57ef Werner-GERMANY, Dubois Jasmien-BELGIUM, Raes Tuur-BELGIUM, Wubin-CHINA, Hira Nur Yıldız-TURKEY, Nurgül Arıkan-TURKEY, Zarin Anbaran-IRAN, Kürşat Sekmen-North CYPRUS )
Works that received awards and honorable mentions will be exhibited at Side Streets in Nicosia on May 28, 2010, along with other works that was selected to be cataloged and exhibited. An 80 pages long cataloge featuring selected works will also be sold at the exhibition. Even though this was the first competition ever organized by the Department, it was a huge success. The Department of Visual Arts and Visual Communication Design has announced that the International Ex Libris Competition will be repeated every two years.
